# What's a WordCamp? Is there a campfire?

"WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other." They are typically indoors and campfires are discouraged. Learn more at http://wordcamp.org.

# Okay, but why?

Between all the WordPress meetups I can find within a few hours of Monterey, there are upwards of 1,400 members on the books. But the closest WordCamp to us (currently) is Sacramento (which, by the way, is a wonderful event). Beyond that, we're headed down to Los Angeles or Orange County. It would be great to have something closer.

# What do we do now?

I'm looking for numbers. I want to see how many folks would be willing to attend a 1 or 2-day WordPress Conference near Monterey. If I find that interest is high enough, I'll approach the powers that be about supporting a WordCamp in the area. If you're on board, let me know below!
