The Southeastern Photographic Society (SPS) is a registered non-profit Atlanta-based community of photographers established in 1976 to help members learn the skills for creating great images and sharing them with others.
We use Meetup to announce all of our events, so please look below to see what is coming up.

SPS members, join SPS and Jack Martin at the St. Augustine Alligator and Zoological Park in St. Augustine, Florida, to photograph native herons, egrets, spoonbills, and wood storks as they roost and raise their young at this time of the year. The wooden walkway allows photographers to capture amazing images of incredibly intimate views of Florida’s magnificent wading birds on their nests. There are, of course, lots of alligators and a zoo full of other exotic animals, but the real treat is the wading birds.
The Alligator Farm offers a 2-day Photo Pass for $84.95 plus tax, or you can buy an annual Photo Membership for $149.95 plus tax. The annual pass can be purchased online, but the 2-day pass must be purchased in person. The Photo Pass allows extended hours during rookery nesting dates (entry as early as 8 AM and staying as late as sunset March 4 - July 2). The Annual Pass also includes a photographers-only deck and five annual photo contest submissions. The best photography is usually until the late morning, and then again around 3 pm in the afternoon until sunset. You can also opt to buy daily admission tickets each day for $35.99 plus tax, but those tickets don’t allow early entry or late exit.
There are also other subjects in and around St. Augustine, and Jack will provide you more information before the trip and while you are there.
There are numerous hotels in downtown St. Augustine, but also plenty of hotels on Anastasia Island, much closer to the Alligator Farm, including Anastasia State Park which is across the street.

SPS has three standing meetings each month for its members and guests. The First Friday Program and Competition features an outside speaker and a members' image competition. While competition entries at these monthly meetings are restricted to currently paid-up members, we ALWAYS welcome visitors interested in photography to attend. The Learnshops (fourth Tuesdays) and Coffee & Critique (second Saturdays) are intended for members, but again, we welcome visitors. If you attend regularly, we ask that you help support the club (which pays for the rental of the facilities, supplies, and equipment) by becoming a member! To pay your SPS dues, visit:

PLEASE READ THE ABOVE AGAIN CAREFULLY.SPS will have a private tour of the Path Museum’s exhibition, Touching Magic: Scenes from an Enchanted Wilderness, showcasing a collection of lyrical photographs that capture the mystery and beauty of Georgia’s coastal wilderness. This exhibition invites viewers into a land of imagination and presents visual narratives that evoke a sense of wonder.
The quality of light, the sea, the moss-draped live oaks and the decaying man-made structures create the atmosphere, and the flora, fauna and figures become visual metaphors that speak to the transitory nature of the physical world and the enchantment and power of the natural word.
The tour will include comments on where the photographs were taken, as well as tips on places to go, where to stay and what to photograph on the Georgia coast. The PATH Museum is located at Lenox Square in the lobby of the 3399 Building (Buckhead Tower), 3399 Peachtree Road, next to the JW Marriott. Uber can drop off right in front of the museum. Closest parking (free) is in the Lenox Road parking deck (2nd floor, uncovered part).1200/675

www.spsatlanta.org - Editing Images: Three Photographers Share Their SecretsLink visible for attendees
Ever wonder how some of our most experienced photographers process their images? Here’s your chance to find out. Join us on Zoom for our April 23 Learnshop where Laurie Gross, Barbara Corley and Steve Director will each demonstrate -- live -- how they process a photograph: one of their own, and one from one of the other two members. Using Lightroom, Photoshop or a combination of both, you will see how the same photograph can be edited differently by different photographers.
Newer photographers are always looking for the "right" way to process their images, while more seasoned photographers often look to others for affirmation that what they are doing is the "best" way to do it. This program will hopefully show that there is no right or wrong way to process images, and that above all else you should develop a process that works for you and meets your needs.
This will not necessarily be a "how to" session, but you will no doubt pick up some useful tips on how each of these photographers accomplish their goals in producing a final image.
Please note:
This month's Learnshop will be online, and the ZOOM link will be emailed the day before the event to all who RSVP.
