Eliminating waste was a major focus of Mary and Tom Poppendieck's application of Lean manufacturing principles to software development. But the seven forms of waste they identified are not enough. Even eight is not enough! This session will delve into the myriad ways time and resources are squandered in the development process. For each, we will also offer practical insights and actionable strategies to mitigate waste, ensuring a more efficient and streamlined software development experience.

Persuading stakeholders and developers can be challenging, especially when preconceptions and skepticism abound. Resistance to Agile, however misinformed, can be deeply entrenched.

Achieving agility requires successful persuasion from the initiation of change to shifts in behavior and structure. The wrong message can really backfire, so Agile practitioners must excel at persuasion.

We explore the SPIN method, a 4-step approach to persuasion that bypasses resistance.

Objectives
1. Persuade people to alter behaviors or messages that inhibit agility
2. Teach agile ways of working to developers without invoking common misconceptions
3. Record and relate the value of your contributions
4. Effectively convey the value of agility to executives, hiring managers and potential clients
