We recently hosted our first TecnoLatinx XR Lab meetup with #Tech4GoodLA “No one is going to show up,” I thought. We’d spent weeks preparing to host everyone at our office. Our hope was to connect with others who are bringing tech to underserved communities. But when I got to the office, I saw clouds forming overhead. Just hours before the event started-- It was pouring rain. I couldn’t believe it. “Who will want to come out in this weather?” I thought. I set up a few chairs in a circle Figuring 5 or 6 people might show up. As the time got closer I saw a few people wander in. Our new meetup community started showing up! Then a few more. Then a few more. “Do we have any more chairs?” About 15 people came in total -- We had people of all backgrounds -- From filmmakers to doctors There to talk about the amazing things that VR can do. Most of our attendees were trying to bring tech to underserved populations-- Just like us. Seeing dozens of people brave the pouring rain just to connect with one another-- Told me that we’re right where we should be.
Yes. The rain slowed me down but didn’t keep me home. I’m glad I made it and I always enjoy hearing about all the wonderful things you guys are doing! Keep it up!!
Good things happen to good people! I would love to join next time.
Yes! There was such an expertise and energy in the room - I, too, was honored that LATech4Good could partner with TecnoLatinx and bring this room together!
I love the work you're doing -- happy to hear you had a good meetup!
So glad the meetup went well! Thanks for sharing.
